Born Alfons Maria Mucha (24 July 1860 – 14 July 1939), Alphonse Mucha was a Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist, he's often credited with the popularization of Art Nouveau as an artistic style. He produced many paintings, illustrations, advertisements, postcards, and designs for numerous publications and companies (most notable of which is designing promotional posters for turn-of-the-century starlet Sarah Bernhardt.) While he is most known for his design and advertising work, it was his interpretation of the Lord's Prayer, a folio entitled Le Pater, that he described as the work "put [his] soul into."
